From michelle.holland at wisc.edu Mon Aug 3 10:33:58 2020 From: michelle.holland at wisc.edu (Michelle Holland) Date: Mon, 3 Aug 2020 15:33:58 +0000 Subject: [mspqc] MSPQC Virtual Graduation Details Message-ID: Hello MSPQC Students, The details for our MSPQC Virtual Graduation 2020 can be found on our website. Please share this with family and friends and invite them to celebrate with us! They can join the live video stream at 12:00pm CST on Friday, August 7th. WebEx is the platform that we will use and it also allows for guests to join by phone if they are unable to connect to video. https://www.physics.wisc.edu/graduate/mspqc-current-students/mspqc-graduation-2020/ As we prepare for Friday, I wanted to share a few logistical details with our graduates: Yi, Ryan, David, Carlos, Jacques, and Del. During the ceremony, Professor Joynt will give a presentation and then we will recognize each graduate individually in alphabetical order. When your name comes up on the screen and is announced, you will be asked to say a few words and then your faculty advisors will say a bit about you too. Please plan ahead for the brief remarks you will say during the ceremony. You will be able to "unmute" yourself and share anything you'd like during that time. There is not a time limit so anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes is fine. If you'd rather not speak during the ceremony, you can submit anything you'd like to say in writing to me by Thursday at 11:59pm and I will include it in the presentation for Friday. If for some reason you are unable to join us on Friday, please let me know so we are aware that you do not plan to attend. Please wear your caps and gowns during the celebration and plan to be on video if your internet connection allows. This will be sure we can make the most of the virtual celebration together! If you have not yet received your cap and gown yet, please let me know. You will need to return your cap and gown. If it was mailed to you, there should have been a return envelope included. Please send that back next week after the ceremony. If it was delivered to you, you should plan to drop it off at the UW Bookstore on State Street anytime during business hours. You should have also received your gift from the MSPQC program, a UW diploma frame. Your actual diploma to put into the frame will be mailed to you by the Office of the Registrar 6-8 weeks after the Summer 2020 degree conferral date which is August 23rd, 2020. I've requested your degree warrants from the Graduate School and will check final grades once classes are over next week. Then I will submit signed degree warrants on your behalf to the Graduate School. They will then work with the Office of the Registrar to get the degree posted to your transcript soon thereafter. Once the degree is on your transcript, you can request an official transcript with your degree posted on it from this website: https://registrar.wisc.edu/transcript/ As always, please let me know if you have any questions along the way. Best wishes finishing the final week of your summer course and the MPSQC program this week. We look forward to seeing you all on Friday for the big day! Best, Michelle Michelle R.Z. Congratulations once again! As a follow up, I wanted to provide a few details and reminders about your official graduation and degree conferral. Return Graduation Regalia: For those who received this by mail, you should have also received a return envelope. For those of you who are in Madison and received door step delivery, you can return these directly to the UW Bookstore on State Street. Please return the graduation gown and hood. The cap and tassel are yours to keep. Warrant: Your advisors and Professor Joynt are currently signing off on the official degree warrants. Once grades from Physics 709 are posted by the grading deadline of 8/17/2020, I will submit your signed warrants to the UW Graduate School for final processing. They will coordinate with the Office of the Registrar to be sure your degree is posted and awarded. Degree Conferral: The degree conferral date for Summer 2020 is 8/23/2020. Shortly after that you should be able to see your MS Physics-Quantum Computing posted to your transcript. You can order unlimited transcripts for any future needs through the Office of the Registrar. https://registrar.wisc.edu/transcript/ Further information about the degree posting and the diploma processing can be found in the attached document. Please be sure your current address is updated in your MyUW Student Center so that your actual diploma makes it to you this fall. This is the last official email being sent to all of you on the MSPQC email list. Next week I will update it to remove those students who have graduated and add the new incoming students. Reid and Feng, you will remain on the email list this fall since you are planning to officially graduate at a later time. As always, feel free to let me know if you have any questions along the way. Otherwise, I'm sending my best wishes to each of you going forward. I am very proud of all of your accomplishments and really enjoyed our time together in the MSPQC program at UW-Madison! Please do keep in touch going forward. Best, Michelle Michelle R.Z. There are 11 incoming students starting this fall in the MSPQC program. Some of the students are already here in Madison and may be taking in person or online courses, while others will be joining us remotely this fall. Sarah Perdue has also prepared a nice website welcoming each class of incoming students with some fun facts. Thank you, Sarah! https://www.physics.wisc.edu/graduate/mspqc-current-students/welcome-new-mspqc-students/ The new incoming students join the current MSPQC students, Yi Feng and Reid Vorbach, who are continuing in the program this fall.
