For graduate students who choose to completely withdraw from the semester, a full tuition refund will be possible for one additional week, to Friday, September 18. Graduate students are encouraged to contact the Graduate School, which is their academic dean?s office, to discuss their situation if they are considering withdrawing or withdrew since September 11. Additionally, two campus-level announcements were published yesterday. Chancellor Rebecca Blank shared an update on UW?s COVID-19 response, acknowledging that the numbers of positive COVID-19 tests on campus have been higher and increased more quickly than anticipated. The message details actions that the university has taken in response. The second announcement was about changes to the spring academic calendar, due to concerns about travel over spring break and uncertainty about the containment of COVID-19. Please continue to check grad.wisc.edu/covid19 for the latest information for graduate students, as well as smartrestart.wisc.edu for more general information. We also use the GradConnections weekly newsletter to send timely announcements to you. Questions can be directed to dean at grad.wisc.edu or smartrestart at vc.wisc.edu. Thank you, William J. The Summit will capitalize on the current momentum of quantum efforts across the Chicago Quantum Exchange and the US. The three-day program of half-day sessions will include industry and government presentations on the future of quantum information science and technology, discussions with leaders from the recently announced national quantum research centers funded by DOE and NSF, and dialogue to grow the quantum economic ecosystem. Due to the virtual format, we anticipate that this Summit will convene a broad audience of more than 1,000 participants, including professional and student representatives from quantum programs across the country spanning universities, national labs, companies, and government agencies. We look forward to your participation in the 2020 Chicago Quantum Summit. Formal invitations and a program agenda will be sent later in September. Each semester we will ask you to talk with your faculty advisor, decide on a course plan, and document it in the system. Hopefully at this point you have already talked with your advisor over the summer or in the early parts of the fall semester to get their perspective on what courses you will be taking throughout your MSPQC degree program. If you have not already done so, or there have been significant changes since you last talked with your faculty advisor, I would suggest reaching out to them at this time. We want to ensure that there are no surprises along the way in terms of your coursework plan and degree progress. Now it is time to officially file your MSPQC course plan so that everyone knows what is going on and to ensure that you are well on your way to success. Please take a brief moment to submit your course plan. https://app.physics.wisc.edu/gradvise/course-plan/ This plan should include the courses you are taking this fall and what you are planning to take in spring and summer as well. You can adjust or change your course plan at any time so this will simply serve as a guide along the way. Once you submit your plan, it will automatically be sent to your faculty advisor for review. Your faculty advisor will submit any comments they have about the course plan to help guide you through the program. You will receive an email once they review your submission. We hope this is a helpful tool to ensure clear communication between students and faculty advisors. Feel free to let me know if you have any questions along the way. Best, Michelle Michelle R.Z.
