I'm reaching out with some detailed information for those of you who are applying to the Physics PhD program at UW-Madison for Fall 2024 (applications due December 15, 2023). Some of you have already reached out to me, so this information may not be new. Please see the attached document created by Sharon Kahn (smkahn at wisc.edu), Graduate Program Manager for the Physics PhD program. If you have additional questions about their application process/materials, please reach out to her directly. Have a great weekend! Elizabeth Hart-Baldridge, M.S. Ed. I want to bring your attention to a couple of graduate ECE courses that might be relevant to the MSPQC students: ECE 845: Transport in semiconductor devices (Irena Knezevic, see attached flyer) ECE 901: Special topics class on deposition methods (Shubhra Pasayat, see description below) ECE 901: Special topics class on atom-photon interactions (Jennifer Choy, see attached flyer). If you could share information about these classes with grad students in your network, that would be much appreciated. Thanks very much! Gubner > Subject: ECE 901 Special topics on deposition methods Hi All, I am teaching a special topics class (ECE 901) in the spring. This course focuses on deposition methods (MOCVD, PVD etc.) for compound semiconductors and I thought it might be relevant for your research groups and students. I would appreciate it if you could share this email with the students in your graduate classes and/or your graduate students. A description of this class: This class will go through the basics of metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) for compound semiconductors. The topics or knowledge acquired can also be transferred to other deposition methods such as Molecular Beam Epitaxy or MBE, Physical Vapor Deposition or PVD, etc. I will also cover some basic devices and correlate them with MOCVD techniques, challenges, and advances. There are no prerequisites in terms of prior experience or expertise in the area. Thanks, Shubhra S. Most TA positions are at appointment levels 33.4% - 50% time (average of 13-20 hours/week of work). These positions would include salary and benefits. People who have not been Physics TAs before are invited to go through the Physics TA interview process, which includes taking quizzes pertaining to the material taught in the General Physics courses. Successful candidates must plan to be in Madison by 16 January for Physics TA training, and to stay as students through the end of the Spring 2024 semester. International TAs must be able to pass the UW SPEAK test. If you are interested, please contact Jim Reardon (jcreardon at wisc.edu) as soon as possible (by 12/29/2023). All Best, Elizabeth
