Hello Everyone:

I am passing along this request from Mallory Conlon (she works with quantum science outreach in the dept.).

We're looking for 2-3 graduate students and 1-2 undergraduates to participate in a career panel we're holding for the students participating in PEOPLE<https://peopleprogram.wisc.edu/> this summer. Some details about the event:

*                    Friday, June 30 from 1:50pm - 3:20pm

*                    ~1 hour Q&A (required) and 30 minutes for LN2 ice cream social (optional)

*                    You'd share a brief (<1 minute) intro about yourself, and then answer questions from the group.

Dear MSPQC Students:

As many of you know, the 2023 MSPQC Graduation Ceremony will take place Friday, August 11 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM in the DeLuca Forum room within the Discovery Building (330 N Orchard St, Madison, WI 53715).

If you plan to participate in and attend this ceremony, please complete the following gradation gown survey by Friday, June 16 @ 11:59 PM:  https://uwmadison.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9WG3dPEeLGXNjKe

By completing this survey in its entirety, the MSPQC program can then cover the full cost of cap and gown rental for each MSPQC student who would like to attend the graduation ceremony.
You do not need to be graduating at the end of Summer 2023 to attend and participate in this graduation ceremony.  Rather, students who graduate in Spring 2023, Summer 2023, Fall 2024, and Spring 2024 may choose to attend.
An RSVP email will be sent to you at a later date to account for any guests you may have in attendance at this event.

I want to call your attention to 2 fall conference opportunities:

1 - Society for the Advancement of Chicano/Hispanic and Native American Scientists (SACNAS) National Diversity in STEM Conference (NDiSTEM)
                NDiSTEM is the largest multidisciplinary and multicultural STEM diversity event in the country, a true celebration of science, culture, and community that serves, equips, and energizes participants for their academic and professional paths in STEM.
                This conference, scheduled for Oct 26-28 in Portland, OR, is a great opportunity to present research (poster or oral presentation) and to network with other attendees.  Learn more about SACNAS here<https://s6.goeshow.com/sachn/ndsc/2023/index.cfm>
2 -  National Society of Black Physicists
                The NSBP Conference is the largest academic meeting of minority physicists in the United States.  The goal of the conference is to provide  mentorship opportunities, increase participant access to recruiters, offer networking opportunities and inform the broader physics community on best practices that will be gleaned during and after the meeting. . . The 2023 NSBP Conference will consist of three days of educational sessions, exhibitions, interactive networking opportunities, a hybrid/virtual component, as well as student career fair and poster sessions on cutting edge issues related to current trends in physics, and science.
                This conference, scheduled for Nov 9-12 in Knoxville, TN, is available for both in-person and virtual attendance.  Learn more about NSBP here<https://nsbp.org/page/preregistration>.

For both meeting, the Physics Dept is happy to encourage and support graduate students who are interested in attending and can provide travel support for a small number of attendees.  For both conferences, there's an early bird registration deadline of June 30 - we can support more people if we register in advance of that deadline.   If either/both of these opportunities interest you, please respond to let me know by Tuesday, June 27.  Note that I will take this truly as interest and not commitment - I'll follow up with anyone who expresses interest.
