I am reaching out with information about the Munich Quantum Valley & IMPRS doctoral fellowships, starting in Fall 2024 (application is open now).
I have recently been made aware of this opportunity, but each year, Munich Quantum Valley awards doctoral fellowships to outstanding young researchers. These three-year ad personam fellowships provide flexibility for recipients to join research groups at any Bavarian university, fostering collaboration across the region. The research areas covered by MQV include aspects of quantum engineering and computer science, applications of quantum computing, atomic physics, quantum optics, solid-state physics, material science, quantum information theory, etc.
Selected candidates not only benefit from full funding for three years but also gain access to existing graduate programs, summer schools, and workshops organized by MQV and our partner programs. They are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion, actively encouraging students from all backgrounds to apply.
Candidates have the opportunity to apply for IMPRS-QST Munich doctoral fellowships concurrently. The two programs exist in the same quantum community in Munich and provide similar benefits, with the only differences being the source of financing funds and the scopes of the programs, where Munich Quantum Valley is more focused on engineering and computational part of quantum, and IMPRS-QST - on the fundamental physics aspects. Furthermore, it is possible for the MQV Doctoral Fellows to join IMPRS graduate school and courses too. Important: the application will be only considered for both fellowships if it's submitted separately (using the same portal) for IMPRS and for MQV fellowships. They encourage applying to both fellowships. 1. Chicago Quantum Exchange, Open Quantum Initiative (OQI)
Level: Undergraduate students
Deadline: February 7, 2024
Description: Students participating in this program will spend 10 weeks in the summer working in person with research groups on challenging, meaningful QISE projects. Research experiences may occur across the CQE community including the University of Chicago, Argonne National Laboratory, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Northwestern University, and The Ohio State University. Priority is given to minoritized applicants, including, though not limited to, students from underrepresented backgrounds, first-generation college students, and those with no prior research experience.

2. Center for Emergent Materials at The Ohio State University

Description: The Center for Emergent Materials (CEM) REU program focuses on fundamental and applied science of exotic and novel materials and next-generation electronic and magnetic technologies. Projects include: the design, synthesis, and growth of new materials (crystals, thin films, 2D) with unique electronic and magnetic phenomena. Developing innovative tools to understand how to control material properties within and across interfaces. Building a theoretical foundation for these emergent properties. Participants engage in professional development activities, field trips, networking, and social events. Participants receive a $6,000 stipend, travel costs, and on-campus housing. 3. JPMorgan Chase

Description: JPMorgan Chase’s Global Technology Applied Research team conducts research in cutting-edge emerging technologies, such as Quantum Computing and Communication. JPMorgan Chase is looking for candidates for their 2024 Quantum Computing Applied Research Summer Analyst program. As a Summer Analyst, your role will begin in June 2024, depending on your academic schedule. Your professional growth and development will be supported throughout the internship program via project work related to your academic and professional interests, mentorship, interaction with senior stakeholders and more. 4. QuantCAD

Description: Our internship program will bring together undergraduate students with backgrounds in STEM, business, art, and communications who share an interest in quantum science. Each intern will spend time working in and learning about all aspects of a technology company. As a member of the internship cohort, you will also work collaboratively with each other on a project that will mirror the start-up experience.
This program is designed to provide an immersive hands-on experience in the world of technology start-ups. You will gain experience in quantum technology and the role of collaboration in development. You will leave with an awareness of how a start-up company functions along with a broader understanding of potential career paths within quantum. Applications will open on January 15, 2024.

5. IBM Quantum
Level: Undergraduate students and graduate students

Description: Applications are now open to intern with IBM Quantum for the summer of 2024. IBM Quantum has directly trained more than 400 interns at all levels of higher education since 2020, many of whom have gone on to work at IBM Quantum or elsewhere in the field of quantum after graduation. Interns have the opportunity to work directly with researchers, developers, and business experts working to advance the field of quantum computing. IBM Quantum interns have researched quantum applications, and design hardware, developed open-source projects with Qiskit, carried out market research, and more. Titles for open positions include Quantum Hardware Engineer, Quantum Research Scientist, and Quantum Back-End Software Developer.

6. memQ Inc.

Description: memQ is looking for an Integrated Photonics test and packaging engineering intern to augment the team's capabilities over the ongoing academic year or in the summer (full-time). If you're passionate about building the next generation of quantum technology, we invite you to apply and get a chance to work with a team of phenomenal experts. As a Photonic Testing Intern at memQ, you will work with memQ engineers to measure and characterize quantum photonic integrated circuits. You will get hands-on experience working with our fiber-optic probe station, develop expertise in improving test automation, and analyze collected data. No prior experience with photonics is needed. STEM background and demonstrated programming experience is preferred.
