Hello All:
This email is for students from the Fall 2023 MSPQC cohort.
Jackets have arrived! Paul is bringing the UW Physics Dept. jackets that the department orders for all new students up to the MSPQC workspace.
There is a spreadsheet on the cart with the jackets with your name and corresponding size. Tags say "Ladies" then the letter size OR nothing and then the letter size (these are assumed to be mens). Please pick up your jacket. If you do not pick up your jacket by Friday, then I will bring all remaining jackets to PHYS 701 on Monday.
Have a great day!

Hello everyone,
We hope your first week of classes has been going well!
For those of you are new to the department, PGSC hosts various professional development events, such as student headshots, invited talks curated for graduate students, and skill-enhancing workshops throughout the year.
We have two events scheduled for September:
1. NSF Graduate Research Fellowship (GRFP) Intro Session – TOMORROW<https://www.physics.wisc.edu/events/?id=8396>!
· Date: Sep. 15 (Friday)
· Time: 3:30pm
· Location: 2241 Chamberlin
· Speakers: Sarah Perdue, Emma Bran, Samuel Hori, Alysa Rogers
· Details: Join us TOMORROW, September 15, at 3:30pm (there is no colloquium that day, but we will have colloquium snacks) for an overview of the NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) by Sarah Perdue. We will also have a panel of physics PhD students who are current NSF Fellows to share their experiences and answer questions!
1. Student Headshots – NEXT FRIDAY!
· Date: Sep. 22 (Friday)
· Time: 2:00-6:00pm
· Location: Garden next to Chamberlin (in case of rain, we’ll let you know!)
· Details: Drop by between 2-6pm to get a professional-looking headshot that’ll make your LinkedIn profile shine. Freelance photographer and PhD student in ECE, Sabrina Wu, will be taking headshots for physics students again this year. We’ll have a laptop on standby so you can preview and send your photos to yourself right away.
We also have a PGSC slack channel: #professional-development that can keep you updated about other professional development events hosted by the graduate school. Consider joining for weekly updates to all the other workshops happening on campus!
We can’t wait to see you at our upcoming events and help you make the most of your grad school journey.
Warmest regards,
Soyeon Choi & Shivani Lomte

Dear MSPQC students,
Some of you have asked for some reference on companies in our space to start looking for internship opportunities.
I am attaching a list of mostly hardware companies. I will update the list later this year but you can at least use it as soon as you choose to.
Keep in mind to also look at internship opportunities at National Labs.
Take care,
Katerina

Good Morning MSPQC Students:
I'm sending a friendly reminder that tomorrow is the first day of class AND there will be breakfast available in the MSPQC workspace, 4254 Chamberlin Hall, tomorrow, Sept. 6 between 8:00 AM - 9:00 AM.
This breakfast is available to all MSPQC students, staff, faculty, and research mentors. It is a drop-in event, so feel free to drop in any time during the hour and stay for as long as you'd like/you're able. This is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with peers and faculty outside of the classroom and/or lab spaces.
I hope to see you there!
All Best,
Elizabeth Hart-Baldridge, M.S. Ed.
