Dear MSPQC Students:
I am reaching out with some information related to checking your academic progress in the MSPQC program.
First, I believe I have now messaged each student who plans to graduate in May 2024 (this spring) with a progress check to confirm requirements will be met by the end of term and that I have submitted a master's warrant. If you believe you are graduating in May/Spring 2024 but do not see an email confirmation like this from me, please reach out to me at your earliest convenience.
I will do progress checks for all enrolled MSPQC students and send confirmation emails once Spring 2024 grades post (like the emails you received the first week of January 2024 once Fall 2024 grades posted). I will do this the week of May 13 - 17. At this time, those of you graduating in Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 will also be notified of the submission of your master's warrant (this is your application to graduate that triggers the registrar and grad school to clear you for graduation-I submit the warrant request for you).
In the meantime, if you have questions related to your progress in the program, summer/fall enrollment, or anything else, please reach out. I'm happy to respond to questions through email or meet to discuss. If you want me to do a check earlier than May 13 when grades post because of your summer plans (ex: ensuring your enrollment looks good before you travel outside the U.S. for summer), just let me know and I'm happy to do that.
Kind Regards,
Elizabeth Hart-Baldridge, M.S. Ed.

Hello MSPQC Students:
The coffee maker is here! I set it up in the MSPQC workspace this morning, cleaned the individual parts by hand, and ran a cycle of water through the carafe side of the coffee maker. If any of you are up there and see water in the carafe, that may be dumped out and you may brew fresh coffee.
I have not yet run water through the single-serve side. I will have time later this morning to do that, but if any of you are there now and get to it first, please just email me directly to let me know.
Enjoy!

Dear MSPQC Students:
If you are graduating in 2024, you may be interested in attending the Spring 2024 Commencement. The Bachelor's, Law, and Master's Degree Candidate Ceremony is on Saturday, May 11 @ 12:00 PM at Camp Randall. Doors open at 10:00 AM and graduates should arrive no later than 11:10 AM.
There is no separate registration process for commencement, and there is no master list that students' names are read from. A graduate's name does not need to appear in the program to participate in the ceremony. Graduates will need to provide a phonetic pronunciation for how they would like their name read at the commencement ceremony.
See the Spring 2024 Commencement website<https://commencement.wisc.edu/ceremonies/spring-2024-commencement/#:~:text=….> for details about attending this event.
Make sure you're aware that you will have to rent your own Master's cap and gown for the ceremony from the UW bookstore-details about gown rental are on the website linked above as well as the UW bookstore website.
The Spring 2024 commencement ceremony is a large, UW-wide ceremony. The MSPQC Graduation Ceremony for 2024 will be on Friday, August 9 @ 5:00 - 7:00 PM. This is a smaller, more intimate event where you may invite your family and friends to attend, your faculty or research advisor will announce you and say a few words, and there will be a reception following. I will send a formal RSVP in May.
You may attend both the Spring 2024 Commencement Ceremony and the 2024 MSPQC Graduation Ceremony.
2024 MSPQC Graduation Ceremony
When: Friday, August 9 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM
Where: in the DeLuca Forum room within the Discovery Building (330 N Orchard St, Madison, WI 53715).
Who: All MSPQC students graduating in Spring 2024, Summer 2024, or Fall 2024 (and potentially Spring 2025 if you want to attend early/may not be here in Summer 2025 for the next event). Other MSPQC students are welcome to attend but not participate to support their peers. MSPQC Faculty and staff. Guests/family/friends of MSPQC graduates.
What: Business-casual to formal event to celebrate 2024 MSPQC graduates! Check-in, 1-hr ceremony, and reception following the ceremony with refreshments provided.
Details: Students will be asked to rent a master's gown from UW bookstore.
Please reach out to me with any questions.
Kind Regards,
Elizabeth Hart-Baldridge, M.S. Ed.

Dear MSPQC students,
On April 9th Michal Stechly (PsiQuantum) would like to talk with you about career development in quantum computing. He asked that we convey the following message in this invite:
"Even though I enjoy talking about it a lot, it's not about me talking about my experience, but rather me helping you make better decisions about your career.
That's why I wanted you to ponder about some of the questions below, so we can have a more productive discussion during the talk.
* What do you think are the most sought-after skills for QC-related jobs?
* What kind of job would you like to get? Research/Engineering/Business/sth else?
* If you could ask person working your "dream job" one question, what that would be?
* What are the downsides of working in QC industry?
* What is a part of the interview process / job market that you know least about? That you are afraid of most?"
We hope to see you there!

Dear Colleagues,
Please forward this announcement to interested students. The Laboratory for Physical Sciences (LPS) Qubit collaboratory (LQC), in partnership with the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), is proud to announce a new fellowship program to support workforce development across the country. The LQC National Quantum Fellowship Program supports research of talented U.S. citizen graduate students and postdoctoral candidates to stimulate participation in research related to quantum computing by pursuing research focused on advancing quantum information science (QIS) devices. Applicants in physics, materials science, electrical engineering, or other disciplines relevant to QIS with a background from either within or outside QIS are encouraged. This opportunity is open to U.S. citizen graduate students or postdocs at a U.S. academic institution.
The application deadline May 3, 2024 3:00:00 PM Eastern Time Zone
For more information or submit an application visit the ORISE program page<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.zintellect.com/Opportunity/Details/…>

Hello MSPQC Students:
I hope you're staying warm today! I am writing to let you know that I am working remote today (Wednesday, April 3). If you need to meet to discuss enrollment or anything else, I am available to meet on Teams or Zoom-just send me an email.
If you prefer to meet in person, I am back in the office tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday and would be happy to schedule a meeting for one of those days.
If you have an urgent matter to discuss and prefer an in-person meeting, Katerina is in the office today (Wednesday) and can meet and relay information to me.
Please reach out if you have any questions or if I can help with anything.
Have a great day!
