As we begin to expand our offerings of career exploration talks, we needed a place to house the recordings and relevant documents (slides, PDFs, etc), so we've set up a Canvas page for this purpose. If you're interested in gaining access to that page (there's not much there yet, but we hope to have it grow), let us know of your interest by completing this form: https://forms.gle/yunBqqy2vom6pmoy6
Give a shout if you have questions!

Dear MSPQC 2024 Graduates:
I am sending a reminder to submit an RSVP for the August MSPQC Graduation Event...
Congratulations on your upcoming graduation from the MS in Physics--Quantum Computing program! The UW-Madison Physics Department is excited to celebrate you and your amazing accomplishments at the Summer 2024 MSPQC Graduation Ceremony and Reception. This event is open to all MSPQC graduates, their guests, and MSPQC faculty and staff.
You may want to attend this graduation ceremony if you:
* Graduated in Spring 2024 and did not attend the Summer 2023 MSPQC graduation ceremony/event
* Plan to graduate in Summer 2024 or Fall 2024
* Plan to graduate in Spring 2025 and wish to celebrate with others in your cohort/don't know if you will remain in the area until August 2025 for the next ceremony
The Summer 2024 MSPQC Graduation Ceremony and Reception will take place Friday, August 9, 2024 @ 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM at the Discovery Building<https://www.map.wisc.edu/s/pbmpjyiu>, Deluca Forum room, in Madison, WI.
RSVP is required for this event. Please complete the RSVP even if you do not plan to attend the event (this will just help me get an accurate guest count-if you are not attending and RSVP "no" the survey will only take about 10 seconds to complete). To RSVP, please allow yourself about 10 minutes to complete the following survey in its entirety by 11:59 PM on Sunday, July 14, 2024.

* The first page of the survey is the RSVP information I need as I confirm details for the event.
* The second page of the RSVP asks you to reflect on your experience and share a bit so that I can create a more personalized ceremony presentation.
* Finally, I ask that you upload a photo you would like me to use of you for the ceremony presentation-if I do not receive an image from you, I will use the one you sent to me in your first semester. If you run into any issues uploading an image in the Qualtrics survey, please just email me the image you would like me to use.
Other ceremony details to consider:

Dear MSPQC students,
See below regarding an exciting opportunity that is algorithm-related.
Feel free to consult with prof. Otten who is very familiar with the tools that are mentioned in this challenge!

Subject: QRE challenge
Hi Katerina!
I hope you're doing well!
I'm co-organizing something that I think could be interesting for students in your program, see below:
Last year we have organized during IEEE Quantum Week conference we have organized workshops on Quantum Resource Estimation. They were very successful (you can read the summary here<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/www.mustythoughts.com/qre-workshops__;!!…>) and one of the main issues with the development of quantum algorithms and assessing the practicality of particular applications that we identified is lack of appropriate tools for performing resource estimation.
In order to popularize the exisiting tools, this year we decided to organize a pre-workshop challenge. The goal of the challenge is to work on a QRE-related project using the available software tools. The winners of the challenge will be invited for to present their work at the workshop in Montreal. There are no restrictions on who can participate in the challenge.
You can find more details here:
https://sites.google.com/view/qce2024-qre-workshops/qre-challenge<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/sites.google.com/view/qce2024-qre-worksh…>
I'd appreciate if you could share information about this event with the people that you think might be interested.
Best!
Michał
Dear MSPQC Students:
I am happy to share a 2024 conference opportunity! The 2024 National Society of Black Physicists and National Society of Hispanic Physicists (NSBP/NSHP) Joint Conference<https://web.cvent.com/event/e7731460-01b0-4982-b4bd-d2caf6c76a76/websitePag…> is on November 13-17, 2024 in Houston, Texas,. The UW Department of Physics encourages and supports graduate students interested in attending. The department can cover the cost of conference registration for a number of attendees (Note: student conference registration fees include travel and hotel accommodations). The regular registration deadline is July 31 and we can support more people if students register in advance of that deadline.
If this opportunity interests you, please respond to this email to let me know by Monday, July 8. I will take this as interest and not commitment-I will follow up with anyone who expresses interest in a second email in the month of July.
Learn more about NSBP here.<https://nsbp.org/> Learn more about NSHP here.<https://hispanicphysicists.org/>
The NSBP Conference is the largest academic meeting of minority physicists in the United States. The goal of the conferenced is to provide mentorship opportunities, increase participant access to recruiters, offer networking opportunities and inform the broader physics community on best practices that will be gleaned during and after the meeting. The conference allows students to have close interactions with professional physicists and gain exposure to high-quality scientific researchers and presentations. In addition to being the meeting that promotes the persistence of underrepresented physics students in the academic workforce pipeline, the conference hosts many high-level research talks, provides opportunities for peer-to-peer interactions; and allows students the opportunity for exposure to the scientific community. The 2024 NSBP Conference will consist of four days of educational sessions, exhibitions, interactive networking opportunities, a hybrid/virtual component, as well as student career fair and poster sessions on cutting edge issues related to current trends in physics, and science.
I hope to hear from you about this opportunity!
Kind Regards,
Elizabeth Hart-Baldridge, M.S. Ed.
