Hello MSPQC Students:
I'm sorry I could not be at PHYS 701 yesterday, but I'm following up with some information about how to enroll in research or independent study (or internship) credits using PHYS 799 in Spring 2023 and future semesters.
Here are some instructions:
1. You can choose to do research/independent study or an internship (or both) throughout the MSPQC program. This may be completed in any semester in which you are offered an opportunity. 2. You must enroll in 1, 2, or 3 credits for a research opportunity using the course, PHYS 799, Independent Study. PHYS 799 is a variable credit course, which means you may select 1, 2, or 3 credits when enrolling. * There are multiple sections of PHYS 799 available each semester. You must enroll in the section associated with the professor who is overseeing your research/independent study. * The appropriate number of credits should be agreed upon by you and the professor/research advisor. * If you are planning to do an internship and are studying on a visa, you will have to apply for CPT. CPT requires students to enroll in an "internship course" and PHYS 799 may be used for this purpose. In this situation, you should enroll in 1 credit of PHYS 799. 3. For research/independent study opportunities, you must complete the attached form (with your professor/research advisor-they must sign this form) and send to me. 4. Once you have sent me the Research and Independent Study Approval Form, I will provide you with a course number and give you permission in the Student Information System (SIS) to enroll yourself in the course for the appropriate number of credits. 5. You can do research in more than one semester. You must complete this form and send to me each time/semester you would like to enroll in PHYS 799.
