I want to call your attention to a fall conference opportunity. . . .

Joint Conference - National Society of Black Physicists and National Society of Hispanic Physicists

The NSBP Conference is the largest academic meeting of minority physicists in the United States.  The goal of the conferenced is to provide  mentorship opportunities, increase participant access to recruiters, offer networking opportunities and inform the broader physics community on best practices that will be gleaned during and after the meeting.  The conference allows students to have close interactions with professional physicists and gain exposure to high-quality scientific researchers and presentations.  In addition to being the meeting that promotes the persistence of underrepresented physics students in the academic workforce pipeline, the conference hosts many high-level research talks, provides opportunities for peer-to-peer interactions; and allows students the opportunity for exposure to the scientific community. The 2024 NSBP Conference will consist of four days of educational sessions, exhibitions, interactive networking opportunities, a hybrid/virtual component, as well as student career fair and poster sessions on cutting edge issues related to current trends in physics, and science.

This joint NSBP/NSHP conference is scheduled for Nov 13-17, 2024 in Houston, Texas,.  Learn more about NSBP here.  Learn more about NSHP here.

The Physics Dept is happy to encourage and support graduate students who are interested in attending and can cover conference registration for a number of attendees.  (Note that student conference registration fees include travel and hotel accommodations.)  The regular registration deadline is July 31 – we can support more people if students register in advance of that deadline.   If this opportunity interests you, please respond to let me know by Monday, July 8.  Note that I will take this truly as interest and not commitment – I’ll follow up with anyone who expresses interest.

Hope to hear from you!
