Dear all, Charis (in cc) has kindly set up our TAC-HEP webpage <https://uwcms.github.io/tac-hep/> using the IRIS-HEP page as inspiration. She has also put some instructions at https://uwcms.github.io/tac-hep/docs for adding/editing team member and student pages. It would be great if you could please add your information, perhaps a short bio and then your computational HEP related interests in your team member page. Charis has also added info there related to this semester's training. @Pete: could you (or Henry) please add the software engineering course info. Thanks. We have a progress report due April 1st and I plan to include the website link in there. Therefore, it would be great if your info is there by then. Summer workshop

Dear all, A few of us happened to be in DC for a workshop and had a quick chat about the summer workshop. We discussed the following points 1. Possible date & venue: — 1 week format July 24-28 — Held in Princeton, the week after the CODAS-HEP event (July 17-21) —> Note the idea would be for the TAC-HEP students to participate in CODAS-HEP (see https://codas-hep.org/ <https://codas-hep.org/> for more information) — We expect several experts will be in the area because of CODAS-HEP and a differentiable programming workshop planned. — Can benefit from the organization of logistics from the other events (dorm room reservations, etc) — Note CODAS-HEP overlaps with Lepton-Photon, the proposed week for TAC-HEP overlaps with the ATLAS Physics week. 2. Some of the goals: — Get mentors & mentees together —> this requires defining the R&D projects, identifying mentors, etc. For scientists from labs, we likely should try to make invitations well in advance due to travel approval procedures & work on finding additional travel support from other sources where possible for mentors. — Include other non-technical aspects, such as soft skills, professional development, etc — Develop materials for the two proposed summer modules (one is analysis facilities, tools, etc) In particular for the proposed date & venue, please let us know what your thoughts are and check your calendars about availability. In terms of the goals, this is just some initial brainstorming on a few points, we need to flesh things out and also gather inputs from everyone, this is mainly just to start to gather some points. Hi, My name is Mason Austin , I'm a first PhD student in the physics department . I am interested in this opportunity I'm have been meeting with Dr. Brian Rebel and learning about his work . I’m not entire sure what project I want to work on but I’m interested in neutrino physics research and I want to work with Dr. Rebel . I have a strong interest in computing as well but I have no background in it. My ultimate goal is to be a staff scientist at FermiLab and this traineeship will help on my path. -Mason Austin

TAC-HEP Interest

Dear TAC-HEP Faculty, I hope this email finds you well! I am a first year PhD student here at UW, writing to indicate my interest in the TAC-HEP program. Because I am interested in pursuing research in experimental HEP, and in particular computational aspects of such experiments, the goals of this traineeship align very well with my own personal research goals. During my undergraduate studies, I worked for 2 years with Dr. David Miller's ATLAS group at the University of Chicago, performing early analysis of trigger algorithms for use in the HL-LHC era. A large part of that project involved designing custom plotting and analysis tools in Python and ROOT, so I came to appreciate both using the tools for analysis, as well as designing the software tools themselves. Prior to coming to UW, I worked professionally for 7 months as a software engineer, working on the Data Management team of the company's Center for High Performance Computing. I see TAC-HEP as a natural way to further my software engineering skills, and to simultaneously accomplish my graduate studies goal of building expertise in computing for HEP. I am especially interested in the research project "Services and Tools for Analysis Facilities for the HL-LHC". This project seems to most directly combine my interests in software and physics data analysis, and I believe that project also best capitalizes on my prior work on ATLAS and data management. If possible, I would be very happy to talk to Professor Bose about the particulars of this project and how I could contribute.
